SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROJECT > Zerain Cultural Park

At the beginning of the 90s, in light of the number and nature of the initiatives underway, a restructuring project was set in motion which turned Zerain's development programme into what is now known as our "Cultural Park".

Zerain's future is based on the strengthening of our cultural heritage and the efficient management of its three main areas:

• Society: organisation, language, community work, cultural association, societies, festivals and celebrations, solidarity, relations and education, etc.
• Symbolic: prehistoric heritage, myths, customs, religion, etc.
• Technical - economic - artistic: adaptation to available space, heritage, constructions and architecture, agriculture, exploitation of forests, hydraulics, roads, quarry, mines, religious art, etc

In short, thanks to the preservation of our culture, we have managed to combine the past (tangible and intangible heritage) with the future (economic future), and current social conscience and dynamics with self-assertion. Through the efficient economic management of the future, culture can strengthen not only identity, but the capacity for self-criticism also.

Cultural development must be considered,
as a driving force behind economic development,
not as a mere afterthought.

Current projects are based around three main pillars, although the common denominator for all is the participation of the entire population.

1. Town Hall: promotes municipal initiatives and services designed to improve citizens' quality of life.
2. The Oa Cultural Association: In conjunction with the other municipal groups (parents' association, farmers' association, hunting and fishing association, young people and retired citizens, etc.), this association aims to cultivate the town's individual identity through social cohesion and dynamics.
3. The Zerain Dezagun Foundation: In order for the rural community's simple desire to survive to become an opportunity for all its members to obtain a decent standard of living, it is vital to promote social initiatives and microeconomic processes. By uniting the primary and tertiary sectors, the Foundation works towards the economic development of the population.

But with all this, we must not lose sight of our most treasured possession: the efforts of a group of men and women who are united by their will to face the future as a community. Now we shout proudly: This is Zerain!! A concept strengthened by a strong community spirit. A humble town that is lord of its heritage. A group of people who, in the economic, tourist and cultural arenas, have managed to unite tradition with modernity.
