Zerainen irudia

THE GOIERRI REGION > Historic route

Idiazabal, a town better known for its delicious cheeses, also has a beautiful church, the Txomenane Botanical Gardens and the palaces of the indianos (Spaniards who returned to Spain after having made their fortune in Latin America).

From here, we continue on to the medieval town of Segura, famous for its Easter celebrations and its rich historical - architectural heritage (church, Santa Isabel Monastery, hermitages, palaces and gateways in the old town walls). Next, follow the road through the Aztiria neighbourhood to arrive at the Zerain Cultural Park, where you can see a slide show that charts the history of this small town. Other places of interest in Zerain include its church, Ethnographic Museum, jail, Larraondo Water Mill and Aizpea Mines.
