Winding its way through the high forests and Saint Adrian's Cave, the old Roman road that leads through the Nature Reserve once formed part of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Trail. Today, walkers can still see part of the old road that was frequently used by pilgrims in bygone years.
From here, you can either climb up to the top of Aizkorri or enjoy the tranquillity of Urbia and its open grasslands. The route continues down through the Otzaurte Pass to Zegama, a town located within the boundaries of the Reserve whose church (which contains the mausoleum of the Carlist General Zumalakarregi and one of the oldest crucifixes in Gipuzkoa), hermitages and historic buildings are well worth visiting.
