This restaurant has been serving meals for many centuries now - ever since the town hall was built in 1711, to be precise. As in many small towns and villages, for many years it was the only place the townsfolk could go to relax, and the only alternative available for travellers wanting to sate their hunger or spend the night in a warm bed.
Today, Ostatu Restaurant offers a warm welcome to both townsfolk and visitors alike, and serves a selection of some of the tastiest traditional Basque dishes: roast lamb, farmhouse chicken and cheesecake, among others, as well as (needless to say given its inclusion in the "Kidney Bean Route") delicious kidney beans also.
The bare stone walls, small windows, ever-present aroma of local cooking and clanking of chains from the jail transport us back in time to the 18th century, making us feel like travellers from that era stopping off for a hot meal and a warm bed.
