This
route takes us to some of the Basque Country's most charming places:
Gernika and Tolosa, capitals of fairs, culture and Basque pelota; the
Zerain living Cultural Park, with its agricultural products and restored
heritage; and Uribe, a Roman town that was once a popular resting place
along the Santiago Pilgrim Trail.
This fascinating route around the Basque Country
will also take us past important natural areas: Aizkorri, the Aralar
Nature Reserve, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and the biotope of the
Uribe region.
The people, their wisdom, customs, confidence
and traditional products, including the delicious kidney bean that is
the focus of this route, constitute yet another hidden attraction.
The route begins in Zerain, and continues on
to Tolosa, Busturia and Uribe. Kidney beans, an integral and much praised
component of Basque cuisine, offer the perfect opportunity to get to
know the customs, character and peculiarities of the Basque people.
And of course, you must not forget to try a tasty dish of kidney beans
at Zerain's Ostatu Restaurant or Mandio Bar.
