A visit to the small museum set up by Eugenio Elortza, a native from
Segura's Erimasoro Farmhouse, provides a fascinating glimpse into the
secret world of bees.
In groups of eight to ten, visitors begin their tour by taking a look at different types of beehives - ones made from logs, wicker, clay, etc, and modern ones more commonly used today - while Eugenio explains the life and work of the bees themselves.
Next on the list is a visit to the active beehives. The group is ushered into a room with large windows, and Eugenio opens a hive so that visitors can see inside: the queen, the honeycombs filled with honey, the workers, etc. A unique opportunity and a fascinating experience.
After seeing how honey is extracted from the combs, the visit ends with a tasting session where visitors can sample the end result of all the bees' hard work: honey.
