TOURIST ATTRACTIONS > Mountain Bike Trails

Thanks to the views of Aralar, Txindoki and Aizkorri, the oak and beech groves, the open grassland, sheep and cows, common tits, robins and other birds, the Oamendi Dolmen and the Irumugarrieta Burial Mound, to name but a few, much more than simple bike rides, local MB trails are a perfect opportunity for visitors to enjoy the countryside in all its glory.

Zerain has three MB routes of varying length and difficulty.

Miners' Trail

2Distance: 23 km. Duration: 2-3 hours. The trails begins from Zerain's urban neighbourhood and leads down to Segura along a mountain track. In Segura, take the road to Beasain and after a steep slope, you will arrive at a junction with the road that leads to Ormaiztegi. This first part of the route runs along soft earth trails, paths and tracks. At the junction, take the track that leads to Aztiria and then turn off onto a track heading towards Zegama (San Adrián). From Zegama, the trail leads us past the Aizpea mines back to our point of departure.
This route is included in the list of the region's official MB trails.

Along Aizkorri

Distance: 45 km. Duration: 5-6 hours.
This longer trail can be cycled almost without stopping. Like the Miner's Trail, it also departs from Zerain's urban neighbourhood, but this time, we head in the opposite direction, towards the Aizpea neighbourhood. In Aizpea, we continue on along a concrete track, which later becomes an earth track before joining the road that comes over Aztiria. Take this track and continue on towards the Aizkorri Nature Reserve. The trail leads through beech and oak forests, sometimes climbing and other times leading downwards, until it arrives at the San Adrián Inn, from where it continues on down to Otzaurte along a track. From Otzaurte, go down a little until you join a road which leads down to Segura's Laiotz neighbourhood on the other side of a small hill.
This route is included in the list of the region's official MB trails.

Dolmen Trail

Distance: 13 km. Duration: 1-2 hours.
Leaving Zerain's urban neighbourhood, continue on around the side of the hill on which Saint Blaise's Hermitage is located until you reach Presagain along a soft earth path. Now take the mountain track towards the Aizpea neighbourhood, past the Aristizabal farmhouse. This is the section of the trail with the steepest slopes. Follow the main track until you reach the top of Oamendi, where you should turn left and descend to Bostaitzeta. In Bostaitzeta, follow the path that leads up on the left hand side to the top of Barbari. Finally, return to Zerain via Jauregi.
